Taral watched the Rogue attempt the climb she had recommended and fall. Concerned, she thought about moving closer, but instead people were congregating near her own location. She saw the splinter in Deryn’s hand. It looked nasty.

She took Deryn by the wrist and looked more closely. After a moment, she withdrew her dagger and looked Deryn in the eye. “This will sting a moment. We’ll get it out on three. One...tw—”

Before even finishing the number two, she deftly slid her dagger under the splinter, cutting Deryn’s hand ever so slightly. She pulled the nasty invader out, withdrew the dagger, and held her other palm over the injury. She whispered the incantation for the spell known as Cure Wounds, which slowly closed the gap in Deryn’s skin.

She smiled up at the Rogue, and then looked up to the Artificer in the tree. She didn’t really want to yell up at her, not wanting to attract any more attention from the spiders. Instead, she tried pointing at branches that she thought could be used as a path over the feasting arachnids. Would Lia understand?

Deryn simply held up the two pieces of bark in her hands that had come away, causing her to fall. She scrambled to her feet, dropping the bark on the ground softly so as to not attract anymore attention. Leaving Sophia on the ground after she helped her felt wrong, even for a thief, so she held her hand out to the girl to help her up.

Sophia reached up and took Deryn's hand before pulling herself back up to her feet after catching the Rogue as she fell out of the tree. She grinned softly and grabbed her bow and quiver, "Thanks," She responded quietly.

"Sophia, Deryn do any of you notice something not right or do you guys see something?"

"Nothing," Sophia responded in a quiet whisper before turning to look over towards the spiders. By now they had seemingly calmed down as the Artificer had gotten closer through the trees. She watched from the rock as the spiders started to return to their meal and began to ignore the party of four that had made too much noise.

“Unless someone lighter than me wants to try, I don’t think we can get to the very top!”

She looked along the line of trees that Taral had pointed out and analyzed the path quickly. Sophia noticed several branches were really quite thin and would easily snap under any weight, "Taral those branches are too thin," She whispered to him. Sophia reached behind her back, drew an arrow, and put it in her bow. She focused her shot so that the arrow would sail just above the spiders and go past them. Sophia fired...

She watched as the arrow went sailing over the spiders with enough speed that when it hit the skinny sapling she was aiming at it split the sapling and made a cracking noise when it hit the ground. The spiders looked up in the direction where the arrow had hit and several of them went to go investigate. Two spiders remained and returned to eating. She looked at Ava, "Now what?" She whispered.

Standing on the rock, Ava looked at her side to see her team members well...struggle would be saying it lightly. Thought in a way they were competent enough to back each other. Ava tried her best to go from branch to branch to get to the path that Taral suggested and noticed as Sophia did that the branches were to tin to really stand on it. She climbed with her weight on and hops onto the path. Seeing the spiders leave she leans a bit forward and thought.

"The area is too unstable on various paths to even get closer without them noticing it. How harsh it sounds, those people are no longer savable and shouldn't be a prime focus. So we..." She blinks when she heard a loud yell of agony and pain and focused on the direction of the yell seeing a man leaning in a ledge that waved at them "Well f*ck... of course, this happens" She signals to keep quiet.

"HELP ME! THESE SPIDERS WILL EAT ME!"

Oh, the spiders did react and most of them came back to intercept the poor wounded man "It seems we are going to fight...or are we going to let him be sucked out of his blood also?"

Deryn watched as the dagger slid into her palm and lifted the splinter out. It stung, but she had to admit the elf was quite deft. Before she could fully react, her palm was healed. "Thanks," she muttered quietly.

She watched the others, secretly angry with herself for being too rash and not taking her time. For allowing herself to become distracted.

Oh, the spiders did react and most of them came back to intercept the poor wounded man "It seems we are going to fight...or are we going to let him be sucked out of his blood also?"

"What idiot sees a bunch of giant spiders eating someone and screams for help?" Deryn whispered, her tone quite annoyed. "If someone has a spell to stop the spiders, that'd be better than fighting them." Though, just to be prepared, she pulled out her shortsword and readied herself for the attack.

Having caught onto what Taral was trying to tell her to do, Lia was about to start climbing again when she saw the arrow go flying and some of the spiders run off.  "That's one way I suppose."

She went to try again to follow where Taral had instructed her when the screaming started.  "Please tell me you are joking," she mumbled, eying the man, then the group below her on the ground.  "I don't think we can help him at all.  It looks pretty bad from up here.  But I can't do anything to...end his suffering.  I don't have a range weapon."

"We can attract the spiders to us," Taral suggested, "with noise and violence and the like. It should draw them from him toward us. But there are enough spiders and even one of them by itself can kill that man with ease."

She took a deep breath. "I don't want to kill them, but I think we have to."

She looked at her teammates, including at tree-bound Lia. "If you all attract the spiders this way, I can get to his side and repel any that ignore you." The green-haired-and-tailed Ithiris waited for some of her comrades to agree before she acted. Her idea would leave her isolated from the group, after all.

Deryn shrugged. "If it works and saves the man? I'll defer to the rest of the group," she said softly, so as to not call their attention prematurely. She stretched a bit, itching to do something other than just stand here.

Looking down and listening, Lia nodded.  "I'm sure I can make plenty of noise up here if we're all in agreement.  I just hope that this actually works, else we're all in for a lot of fighting and pain and we won't be able to save him."

The situation was grim, they had a task ahead of them and at the same time, most of the members in this team were rookies, just like herself. There were only three spiders, but the others were not far away either. She gritted her teeth out of frustration and looked at the others "Saving it is... get ready for combat" She announced and kneeled down aiming her staff at the spiders narrowing her eyes and mumbling a spell.

A dim blue light appears throughout the staff as one of the spiders started to gain frost all over its body making it back off and looking around. Yet Ava focus was prime and aimed at the spider "Now is the time to take them out...I will cast the Ray of Frost" With that she mumbles the spell and a blue, whitebeam blast off from her staff tip and for some reason, the spider had noticed it and tried to dodge it. Yet it hits the spider legs, not solid enough to keep it down "Crap..."

As the ice blast caught one of the spiders by its legs, Taral closed her eyes and allowed her body -- clothes, equipment, and all -- to transform. Her mass seemed to shrink into a specific point as she transformed from a medium-sized green-haired Ithiris into a Blue Morpho butterfly mid-flight.

She flew high above the spiders and looked for an appropriate landing spot. She waited patiently for her comrades-in-arms to draw off more spiders, hovering about a meter from the wounded man. She was ready to revert to her humanoid form once enough spiders moved away.

Not quite sure staying in the tree might be the best thing now, Lia dug around a bit in her pack and pulled out a few small but extremely sharp yet unfinished knives she'd been working on.  She had almost forgotten about them and now they weren't good for anything but throwing.  Given her place in the tree and somewhat as a lookout at this point, she wished she'd done more practicing with throwing knives.

Taking the best aim that she could, she eyed the closest spider and, after making sure she could keep her balance, aimed the knife directly down at the cold-legged spider's head.  To her amazement, there was a direct hit on the spider's head.  "Well, okay then," she mumbled as she looked out to see where the other spiders might be, as well as the butterfly that was Taral.

Deryn watched the mage cast the freezing spell and nodded. She was impressed by the woman's ability, but the druid was much more impressive. Turning into a butterfly? Now that was a feat. She was momentarily distracted, but she heard the sound of a knife hitting a spider and looked over. "Nice shot," she whispered even though the woman who threw the knife likely couldn't hear her.

Her eyes scanned the enemies. They were distracted. This was perfect for Deryn. She held her blade close, making herself as small as she could physically go while still being able to move. Carefully she moved around the spiders, making sure to keep the druid's position in mind. Stealth was the name of her game and she was currently doing alright. There was definitely room for improvement, but so far the spiders hadn't caught on to her movement.

Drawing close to one of the hideous beasts, Deryn lifted her short sword and darted forward. Bringing the sharp blade down, she slashed across the body of the closest spider. Before it could reel around to her, Deryn jumped back and darted into the nearest cover. She was pleased with her effort, but knew it was not time to celebrate just yet. Those spiders were still moving.

She tried her best to focus on the enemy, but Ava was amazed to see one of her teammates turn into a butterfly "She got to teach me that one..." Ava mutters to herself as she noticed at her side that some of the spiders had returned "Incoming!" She lifts her staff and her eyes began to glow again as the magic spell appears from the ancient words she stated. Another ice beam hits in front of the spiders that halted for a moment looking as it came for. As a bigger one stared directly at Ava spot.

"Clever girl..." Ava mutters "They got me! Get that person away" She yelled not caring anymore if she gets noticed. Ava knew now that they would come for her. But she held her position, long enough for them to retreat or do something, anything if not something stupid.

Deryn looked between the butterfly that was the druid and their sorcerer, who was now under attack. Muttering to herself she decided that moving the injured man to a safe spot should be quick. If she could hide him and the druid could seal his wounds, that would give them a better chance of saving the guy. And besides, the one in the tree could help the sorcerer, Deryn wasn't abandoning her.

Quickly, she moved to the injured man and Taral. "We need to move him, hide him," she said softly. But the noise of skittering feet behind her made her turn. "Damnnit... Taral, if you can heal him, do so now, and get him away if possible," she said, pulling her short sword out of its sheath again. Without waiting for an answer from the butterfly druid, Deryn charged forward.

Darting to the side, Deryn slashed at the closest spider and grinned as a gash opened up across its body, spilling its sickly green blood down its side. She jumped back, spun around and darted between some rocks, then moved around another boulder, giving herself a good hiding spot where she could still see the confused spider moving toward the initial rocks she darted between.

While her comrades were busy dealing with the spiders Sophia had done what she was trained to do and slipped through the forest in order to put a slight amount of distance between her allies, the spiders, and herself. She took up what was essentially a snipers nest and drew an arrow from her quiver and aimed towards the spiders she sees a spider approaching where Deryn has hidden away and unleashes her bolt straight at it. The arrow sails through the front leg closest to her before embedding itself into a second leg causing enough damage to stop the spider, but it's still alive.

Sophia then notices that Ava is in trouble as three more spiders are barreling down on her. An ice attack successfully stopping them, but Sophia could tell that they were trying to find a way around the barrier. She needed to stop that and loaded three arrows into her bow and drew it back. She unleashed the volley with two of her arrows slamming straight through the heads of the spider in the lead and the spider to the left with the third arrow hitting the third spider in the leg injuring it.

Sophia then strapped her bow back over her shoulder and carefully made her way to another spot so that the spiders couldn't pick up a sense of where she was located. Her movements were so quiet that not even a squirrel or any other animal in the area detected her as she managed to get to another area. She set herself up and continued to watch her allies waiting for her next chance to shoot some spiders.
